Samaria Gorges September 2005:

Finally did it! The walk down the Gorges I meant.

Was great. Couldn’t move a muscle after that but no regret. 16Km down the gorge, and just when you thought it was over, an other 2Km to the sea! Will not walk it again….ever!!!

As for the Cretan People, well having lived there 9 summers and 1 full year, I feel there is a genuine warm welcome felt there towards “outlanders”… as long as there aren’t too many of them! Same as anywhere else then. Where the tourists are, Cretan can’t wait for them to go home. On the other hand, if you spent time in a lost village, you quickly become the main attraction. What can we say, human nature…

Beautiful countryside, eclectic landscape. There are mountains covered in snow as well as sandy beaches and archaeological sites all around the island. Shame hotel construction is favoured over them :(

Great Place to visit (I recommend green tourism) and retire.
